Bissell Powerfresh Steam Mop Blue, 1940

Bissell Powerfresh Steam Mop Whatever kind of contraption comes to mind when you think of the term “steam mop” will be only slightly close to what this actually is. The Bissell Powerfresh Steam Mop is an innovative spin on steam cleaning but in the form of a mop.

Bissell says this product sanitizes as it cleans and will eliminate up to 99.9-percent of the germs and bacteria it comes in contact with. It features a digital steam control for precision and a flip-down Easy Scrubber for taking on tough messes. You can even insert your favorite scent disc to add freshness to each and every room you clean.

The design of this steam mop sees the water tank located at the top so it can be refilled at any time when it is being used. While Bissell suggests using either distilled or demineralized water, tap water can be used, only it is not recommended due to the minerals and chemicals that may be present in your municipal water supply. The design is meant to be more efficient and the manufacturer says this mop will clean twice as fast as a comparable steam mop. It comes complete with a selection of Febreeze fragrance discs that just pop into a handy little holder.

Where the design of this steam mop is supposed to win you over is how it cleans hard surfaces. This includes tile, sealed hard wood floors, marble, stone, ceramic, linoleum, and laminate flooring. Another great part of the design is an ergonomically shaped handle and a soft grip to make using it easier for longer periods of time. The microfiber pads also feature Microban antimicrobial protection. The digital steam settings, mentioned above, are part of the SmartSet Steam Control system created by Bissell. What that means is you have three main settings – low, medium, high – to tackle different kinds of clean up jobs.

Using Bissell Powerfresh Steam Mop

I like the overall design of this product and probably one of the best features is the water tank. It is perfectly placed at the top of the unit and is even removable making for easy filling and emptying. This alone may be the main reason some people will purchase this item. It is nothing like my mother’s steam mop! And while we’re on the steam, once you set the level you want, that’s what you are going to get. The steam flow is steady, constant and stays regulated. You don’t need to pump anything to keep it going.

Wide Micro-fiber padThe mop head is nice and wide. I really appreciate this as I hate having to make several passes in order to get full coverage of an area I’m cleaning. The Bissell Powerfresh Steam Mop is not like that. The flip down easy scrubber is also a nice touch. I like that it is not an attachment you have to remove or snap in before using. The cord is plenty long enough for any of the rooms I have used it in. Possibly it may be too short for a long flight of stairs.

The only negative I can find is that sometimes when I use a forward motion the microfibre pad bunches up. It doesn’t always happen, but it does and as a result, it reduces the actual amount of the pad that is touching the surface I am cleaning. Would I suggest you get one of these? It depends on what you are cleaning. If your home is mostly carpet, you won’t get much use out of this steam mop. If your high traffic areas are tile or hardwood, you pretty much will pay for this in a matter of months.
